Day 20 Post Accident Like I have said before this process is a roller coaster. First, let me apologize for the numerous typos in yesterdays post. I was exhausted when posting the update. Second, I guess I need to level set on Ricks prognosis. I felt like Rick was making progress yesterday but after meeting with his doctors today I may have mislead everyone a bit, at least based on what his doctors think. The good news is that yes the seizures have stopped and he will continue with the anti-seizure medication. And, the MRI did not show any changes which is good because it showed no additional clots. It can take months for his body to dissolve the clots in his brain. In addition to the seizures, stroke/clots his doctors are now saying he had a tramatic brain injury. The reflexes I mentioned yesterday that I observed is called storming and is part of the injury and is also referred to as autonomic dysfunction. They are not purposeful and are the result of adrenalin surges. They are not dangerous but cause him to sweat and shake ALOT. Its extremely painful to watch him go through this. They believe he has been experience this all along but it was masked by the sedation and all the fluids in his body. As you may know tramatic brain injuries just take time to heal we all will just need to be patient. Rick will remain in ICU till his trachea suctioning needs are no longer needed. This could be within the next week or so. After that he will be transferred to a facility that focuses on brain injury rehab. While we are certain he will need to re-learn some things (not sure what) the good news, per his doctors, is that his injury is generalized and not a specific area of the brain. I will always remain optimistic because I know God heals and Rick is #ClausStrong ! Please continue to pray for progress in Ricks recovery. I cant you all enough how much I appreciate your prayers and support during this difficult process. We are #ClausStrong !
