Day #21 (6/10/2014) It was the first time for most of us to sleep at a caravan, it was actually comfortable. Most things are more comfortable than camping right? However, putting things into perspective, camping has been just fine! We couldnt set off that early: NGO work to do with wifi, posters in Spanish/Portuguese on the 3 bikes and the car, nice big breakfast and an 2m tall instalation of Nativity Scene handmade by Carlos (he does a different one every year, then next will be subaquatic!). Monday started slowy, fighting our stiff muscles (always worse in the morning) and wind - yes, ultra windy all day long! Hit the road between Alba de Tormes and Plasencia, proud of 117kms with hills in the middle - Parque de Candelario. It was uphill that we got a phone call from the SIC TV reporter suggesting we get coverage going through the Portuguese border!! We gasped a YES! Baños de Montemayor brought us exactly what we needed - Jorge, of the shop Albalá cesteriaymuchomas had a cestery built bike (Nadia was over the moon) and he said how very few will do something like fundraising, and how things would change if more individuals would contribute. Then, he offered local goodies and a truly heartfelt smile. It was 2km later he stopped us with his car to give us 20€ donation by hand!! We spotted the first woman cycling in Spain! And, she was packed with paniers!! On her own!!! Gracias to the owner of the pharmacy Araceli Martin G, for the goodies and encouragement. The restaurant La Parrilla hosted our escort car at the dusk and offered drinks and cake (gracias!). Straight in the morning, we knew Jorge and his dog Senda (muchas gracias! o teu Português é muito bom) would host us overnight... it feels good to have targets (: and so we arrived safely... and ultra drained. What a warm shower!
