Day 21: Ramallah & Jericho - the hotel were staying in in Bethlehem is super fancy & looks like a castle a bit - drove past some more refugee camps. Really they look like crowded cities at this point - visited Arafats memorial tomb. Incredibly white & pristine in contrast to the trash & dirt everywhere surrounding. - amazed at how convoluted driving seems to be in the West Bank. Hard to get btwn the major cities - they have to go around all sorts of cities to avoid zone C. What a pain. - Stopped by a micro-brewery & learned about some of the challenges of small village living - they are only allowed water 2 days/week. Impressed theyre still managing this small company w some import/export on 2 days/week water. Wow. Way to rise above Taybeh! - arrived at Jericho - a smaller more spacious farming city, so pretty & green w lots of date palms & bananas everywhere - visited the few ruins of the ancient city of Jericho. saw the 1 piece of what could have been a wall at one point - looked more like mud & a few rocks, but Im no expert - checked out the ruins of Hishams palace. Beautiful mosaics still in tact, as well as some nice pillars in the harem - the Jericho hotel has a great pool & jacuzzi. Enjoying swimming in the evenings & bonding w the locals (mostly hotel workers & drivers, but whatev)
