Day 22 - I do honorably give Thanks that I was young and incorrigible on the day President Kennedy was killed. The second my class was told. all of us were cloaked in grief and reverence. The next 4 days were. My brother, 5 years senior and a political science enthusiast and majored in later had already taught me so much about JFK and Camelot. He sat indian style and I on my knees in front of that old black and white tv with 3 channels for days and into the night...even though we had seen most reels over and over. This was the very first time that television had been used in such a manner that I recall - every minute directed on the fallen President, his oh-so classy wife and all of the goings on around the story. Our houses were silent in my neighborhood - no playing ... no one wanted to. The loss seemed too Great and heavy! To me, this day was the Baby Boomers 9-11 (and I mean NO disrespect). This wasnt just the loss of a great man - it was all encompassing and seemingly everyones great feeling of jeopardy of everything that our country had risen to the highest accomplishments and dreams. That we COULD make changes to the Nation and World around us. And I never remember the US feeling like that again - that strong, hopeful in everything, trying and winning, going Forward.... Thankyou for letting me know ALL those feelings before and after
