Day 22 I Didnt Mind Being Kept Waiting Reading: John 17:1-12 Text: v 4: I have brought you glory on earth by completing the work you gave me to do ... We spend one more day reflecting on how we can, we gain more time to read and study Gods Word. First, we should consider the whole issue in an attitude of prayer, asking Gods help as we attempt to recast our priorities. Next, we should prune our days and cut out, or cut down (as God directs) all unnecessary things. Follow the principle of what someone has described as planned neglect - the neglecting of those things that can be neglected so that higher things can get done. Be alert and ready to appropriate all the loose and unexpected moments during the day. Frank Salisbury, a well-known London artist who lived in the first half of this century was once commissioned to paint the portrait of a very busy man whose quiet poise and serenity impressed him greatly. As he studied the mans face over many hours he said I learned to love it. Indeed, in the end he painted two portraits, one for the mans children who had commissioned it, and one for himself. He learned the secret of the mans quiet serenity in a strange way. There was a misunderstanding between them on one occasion over the hour of one of the sittings and the busy man was kept waiting for almost two hours. When Mr Salisbury came out of his studio to meet him and apologize, the man gently pushed aside his expressions of regret and said I didnt mind being kept waiting; it gave me extra time to dip into the Bible. Many Christians have told me that they often didnt mind being kept waiting (emergencies apart) as it gave them extra moments to spend with the Word of God. Join their ranks. Carry a small Bible or New Testament with you and learn to salvage those unexpected delays by opening up the Scriptures. Every day these unexpected delays come. Be ready for them when they arrive. They are tiny grains that can be turned into gold. Time it has been said is the great equality. Everyone has twenty-four hours in their day. But regreattably not everyone uses them well. Lord Jesus Christ when You were here on earth You never hurried yet clearly from the text before me today You did everything Your Father wanted You to do. May I too have time for the things that matter. For Your own dear Names sake. Amen Amen Amen .
