Day 22: So thankful for the lady and several men who have served as my mentors in the faith throughout my life. Learned so much under them and love them dearly. They each hold a special place in my heart. God placed them in my life at the appointed time. 1. Betty Ferguson - The only lady on my list, although my Christian life has been enriched by so many of them. Betty took me on as her assistant teacher in VBS at the age of 13 as a brand new believer. She encouraged me to teach her class one day which set me on the road to where I am today. Betty, thank you for lighting that little flame that grew to a raging fire burning within my bones to preach the good news. 2. C E Clarence Burden - My hometown pastor at Southside Baptist Church in Winona. Spent many an afternoon in his little den listening to his words of wisdom as a teenage boy. Always had time to listen and share. 3. Pete Collins - My Youth Pastor as a teenager at Southside Church. Took time to share the gospel late one evening on his living room where I got down on my knees and repented of my sins and called on Jesus to save me. Hes my spiritual dad in the faith. Later Bro. Burden baptized me. 4. Dan Bryan - My uncle who prepared the way by sowing the seed in my life that would later result in my salvation. Coached me in my faith through my high school and early college years. 5. John T Bomar - Sat under his pastoring all four years of college and took my speech and homiletical classes while at Mid South Bible College under him. Visited with me many a late night and early morning as a college student in need of pastoral encouragement and direction. Served for a year after college graduation as his Assistant Pastor at Capleville Baptist Church, Capleville, TN. 6. Edwin Sullivan - Cyndis uncle who had a tremendous impact on me as a devoted deacon in Gods service. He preached my ordination sermon which is one of my prized possessions to this day. I read it from time to time to be reminded and encouraged in my duties as a servant of God. 7. Dual Corbitt - Retired Pastor Emeritus at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church while I pastored there. We did a whole lot of funerals together, hospital visits and home visits together. These were so full of Gods wisdom and Im so fortunate to have learned so many life principles that I still apply daily in my life. Thank you, Lord, for allowing me to know these giants in the faith.
