Day 22 of Susan Anderson & Gareths Greek Odyssey...yesterday went - TopicsExpress

Day 22 of Susan Anderson & Gareths Greek Odyssey...yesterday went surprisingly without hiccups and after a delicious breakie of cheese pies from the local bakery in Hydra, we climbed aboard the Flying Dolphin once more to be whisked of to the island of Poros! A real trip down memory lane for Susan as she used to live here in the 70s and she provided an interesting commentary, reminiscing about old friends, where she used to live, tavernas she frequented, being kicked out of her hotel for entertaining a gentleman visitor and the steps she passed out on after a heavy night on the ouzo! Arrived at our home for the next 3nts, the gorgeous and quite luxurious Valente Perla Rooms complete with Coco Mat bed (which she has been banging on about for the last two and about half months but in fairness, was the best nights sleep I have ever had!) Almost had our first tiff as Susan decided to use my hand towel as a bath mat! Joking! We ambled along to the nearest beach bar for a well earned Mythos beer (stumbling on another career specific potential property -take note Julie Dent) and interestingly, got into conversation with an Athenian guy who turned out to have been been a backing singer in the 2003 Eurovision Song Contest! Stopped off on way back to hotel to enjoy lunch at The White Pussy Taverna (satisfying patrons since 1909 no less and we secured the best table in the house...at the top of the jetty overlooking the town and Naval base!) Just prior to our daily siesta, I impressed Susan no end by fluently and eloquently putting to good use the limited Greek she has taught me, to deal with some noisy neighbours...Sygnome. Tinafto?! Oki, Oki, Oki malakas! Shhhh paracalor! ...loosely translated to Sorry. What is this?! No, no, no w#nk*rs! Quiet please! It worked and we drifted off nicely! An evening whiled away in a pretty ouzoria widened our appreciation for the drink as the cute 20yr old waiter found it hilarious to introduce us to 39%, 42% & 46% proof varieties accompanied by fried zucchini balls and tzatzki whilst Susan regaled us both with tales of the port and town from before we were born! After two bottles, we sauntered up and down the prom like two well soaked prozzies and came upon the only biker bar on the island...playing Queen! At E6 a pop for a barcadi & coke, the communal purse took a battering but a good time was had by all! Awoke with fuzzy heads but off to beach shortly to sweat it out in true holiday fashion! Enjoy your day friends! Lots of love from a hot & balmy Poros! Xx
