Day 227........ So, yesterday I went to my culinary school to judge the senior class final food preparation. This grade determines their final grade for the class and whether theyll get a bronze, silver or gold medal. There are three judges for approximately twenty-five students. We all three taste four courses for each student, which in the beginning is great and by the time youre towards the end is a daunting task. So when one of the judges walked in, I recognized him. He was one of the three judges that judged MY hot food final! I cant tell you how awesome that feeling was! After chatting with him in great length, it turns out hes one of the contenders that The Food Network is considering and hes sober! We were both really thrilled for each other and promised that wed root for the other if they made it. So we were tasting all of the food. Most of the students did really well. There were a few missteps here and there. But theyre students and they are there to learn. There was one young lady. She made a dessert. We ate it. When it came time to critique her food, this is what I said to her in front of her whole class. Have you ever made bread pudding before today? she said that she made it all of the time at home. I said, Well, was quite obvious. Ive traveled around the world and I currently travel across the country. I can make some pretty mean bread puddings myself. This was hands down the best bread pudding that Ive ever eaten and my colleagues completely agree. The presentation couldnt have been better either. She began to cry. I told her to cry those tears of joy because she earned it. Isnt that what life is all about? Showing kindness to another. For that I am grateful Thank you GOD
