Day 23: A day full of firsts. Today both of our little - TopicsExpress

Day 23: A day full of firsts. Today both of our little munchkins remained on their current respiratory support (meaning Abigail has stayed on CPAP 5 and Aiden has been breathing unassisted) and they seemed to be doing fairly well. Abigail needed extra oxygen of 40% when she came out for cuddles (but ill get to that in a second) and Aiden had a few self recovering desats and bradys, but on a whole they are doing fairly well respiratory wise. Their feeds and medications did not change today and they did not have any tests or scans or procedures. So it was a nice day for the kids (and us!) Ash was finally able to have his first twin cuddle! It was so nice to see him with both of our children in his arms. Abigail slept nicely on her Daddy’s chest for the most part, she did have a few dusky episodes (where her oxygen saturations dropped and she turned a bluish/pale colour) so needed her CPAP oxygen increased and some facial oxygen, but I think that was more relating to her position as she had tilted her head forward. Aiden had an occasional desat but the neopuff was close by and had 5 litres of oxygen running (and he spent half of the cuddle very alert and on the move – commando crawling up Ash’s chest, pulling out chest hair along the way!) Aiden also decided it would be nice to vomit a little after his feed (on Daddy’s chest!) in view of this vomit (which was all in his hair and neck) Aiden had his first bath! More like a minute dip in the water to clear the mess, but a bath none the less. I must say, I teach parents how to bath their newborns all the time, but bathing my tiny 1.4kg premature son was not like anything I have experienced before. So we had a first twin cuddle for Ash and a first bath for Aiden (and me!) and that makes today another happy day full of little milestones. We are so in love with our little people and each first, each milestone just makes our hearts swell with even more love than we knew we had.
