Day: 23 Date: Thursday June 27th Status: Alive Location: Guilin Before I went to sleep I took off my shoes and something told me that they would probably get stolen. I thought it would be ok since I need new ones anyway. When I woke up my shoes were gone. I thought it was funny because I called it. Turns out I was wrong, though. One of the people from my compartment probably thought the same and hid my shoes in a corner under a bed before leaving. My shoes have not been stolen. I am wearing them right now. China moment of the day: we were delayed 4 hours and 40 minutes. We were on that train for over 30 hours. I ate half a kilo of lychee, 3 big Asian pears, almost 1 kg of peaches, 4 big things of instant noodles, one large pack of cookies, a thing of grapes and a fruit leather. The last 5 hours were so painful without food… My forced isolation (nobody in my train car spoke any of the languages that I can speak or understand) forced me to look for other backpackers thought the train. I have befriended two Dutch guys Jesse and Daan. One of them is a doppelganger. I need to get a good picture of him before I reveal whose double he is… It rained all day since I woke up and it has not ended yet. I am in Guilin now (it is officially Friday) and it is 100% humidity. You feel the water everywhere and it rains showers every hour. At least it is about 77 F right now and it feels nice even though my hair is one massive Eva Ayllon wig. I was scared to turn on my computer because it was wet on the outside. By the time I got to the hostel it was about 9:30pm and I was starving. I explored the vicinity looking for food and befriended some locals. They invited me to their table where they shared their food with me. I had some beef kabobs and a snail. That’s right. A SNAIL. It was kinda sweet and cinnamony. They also insisted I take a bottle of minute maid. Minute maid in china is DELICIOUS!!! I tastes more like real orange juice. I love it. As you can see it has been a success day – other than the 30 something train ride. End of log.
