Day: 24 Date: Friday June 28th Status: Alive Location: Guilin It is still raining, and it will continue for the next week. Turns out Guilin is insanely expensive (just like Dallas Shi said). Going on the Li River might not happen. Another thing is: why spend money if you won’t see much because it is all clouded out and raining? Today I walked around with my new dutch friends (who turned out to know Lukas Chiggiwängwäng Kiefer from Russia). It rained the entire day so we were soaking wet for about 7 hours and we still are because in this weather things don’t dry up… We saw Elephant hill (sort of) from a weird angle. You will have to google it because I didn’t take a picture: too many obstacles and trees hiding it. You can see the karsts (when the clouds allow it) surrounding certain parts of the city. It looks really cool. I wish it wasn’t raining so the clouds would go away and I could see the karsts in the distance all over the city! Tomorrow I will go see the rice terraces and compare them to the Colca canyon. I’m trying to figure out a way to get there that won’t be as expensive. Guilin is the biggest rip off so far, I will run away to Yangshou and try to explore there. Everything here is in the hundreds of yuen range…. Even the elephant cave is 70 Yuen! (that is why I only saw it from the distance). Disaster of the day: American Express did something weird and charged me my monthly bill twice (by mistake) they will wire the money back in 5 business days. I had a couple of very stressful hours because of that. Other than that today was a very wet day with good food. End of log.
