Day 24 after transplant: Another good day overall! Drakes - TopicsExpress

Day 24 after transplant: Another good day overall! Drakes liver and kidney levels went up again overnight...dang it!! But, his body needs to get used to not having so many medications running through his central line before his levels start declining. One of his medications that he is on is called Defibritide. This is the medication that is supposed to help his Veno Occlusive Disease (the small blood clots in his liver), but its can hurt his kidneys and his liver all at the same time. Normal protocol to be on the medication is 21 days, and Drakes 21 days is up on Monday. Crossing our fingers he wont need the medication anymore, but we just never know. Drake also had dialysis today. His bilirubin (liver), BUN and creatinine levels (kidney) were all up today. His weight maintained overnight, so he had no extra fluid. We asked if they thought they would dialyze this weekend, and they said yes, so we asked them to do it today instead because we will be gone most of the day with AJ tomorrow. We didnt want Lori, our family volunteer, to have to worry about dialysis with Drake. We want the day to go as smooth as possible for her, and for Drake. So, today they basically just cleaned his blood. They ran the machine over 3 hours instead of 4. I also asked the kidney doctor how long she thought Drake would be on dialysis. She said it all depends on Drake, but she said he is on the good side of the dialysis chain. He is pretty jaundice looking. A lot of it is from his liver levels rising, but also from one of the medications he was on, and one he is on now. Just waiting for a turnaround. He got sick twice this morning. We think it may be from increasing his feeds, so we had them turned back down to 22ML per hour. Going to give his little body a little bit longer to adjust to eating again. They started testing his stool for the Crypto virus again. Before transplant it was registering as many, meaning there were many parasites present, and now it is registering as rare, meaning there are very few parasites present! Good news there! Now for the really good news!!!! 1) Drakes engraphment came back for his bone marrow biopsy! They show NONE of Drakes cells present!!!!!! NONE!!! They show 85% from donor 1, and 15% from donor 2!! Thank goodness!!! The cells are doing their job! And... 2) Final results are in from Seattle! HE HAS NO SIGNS OF LEUKEMIA!!!!!!! We screamed with joy for him!!!! Please dont forget about the fundraiser tomorrow in TEMPE, ARIZONA! If you are local, or have friends and family who are local, stop on by! If you cant make it, they do deliver!!
