Day 25 -- November 30, 2014 So many prayers have been answered, especially these past few days - 1) David has been able to maintain oxygen levels without the ventilator for 5 days and respiratory therapy has removed the machine from his room - Hallelujah!; 2) LTAC transfer has been put on hold. Trauma dr. and rehab dr. agree that his medical needs are minimal at this point, with rehab being the primary concern; 3) speech therapy will do swallowing tests to make sure he can swallow soft food without aspirating before moving toward removal of the trach, then the feeding tube - another huge step. Specific prayer needs - 1) holiday weekend has meant that many ancillary services have been understaffed since Thursday. David has become frustrated as he is anxious to begin rehab and be able to shower, toilet and eat normally again. Pray that physical therapy and speech therapy are able to do the assessments tomorrow and make their recommendations; 2) pray that,at the appropriate time, a bed will be available on the floor where he will be moved; 3) pray that his body will reset so that he can resume a normal sleep routine. He is still sleeping very little at night; 4) pray that all residual effects of heavy duty sedation will be cleared from his body and mind. He is mostly clear thinking and lucid but still has moments of confusion. I am told that these issues will be resolved when he gets out of ICU; 5) pray for his stamina as he begins physical therapy which will eventually be 3 hours per day. I cherish even more each day that I get to spend with my love, my best friend. We both have realized that there are things we want to do that we have only spoken of but have yet to take action- Wake up call! I have a greater appreciation for single parents as I have assumed responsibility for many things that David has taken care of. Two is definitely better than one! Adversity really can make you bitter or it can make you better - I hope I always choose the latter. God is good ALL the time and I have seen Him working out things for our good throughout this journey. Our family have been strengthened and we have been blessed beyond measure by the love and support of some very special friends, some long time and some very new. Greater things are yet to come as I am certain that God will continue to reveal more of Himself and His plans for our future. And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28
