Day 25 At the Nebraska Med. Center could be our last night here! Cross your fingers!!! The doctors have cleared Lora to leave whenever a bed is available at the Madonna Rehab. Center in Lincoln, Nebraska. 80% of the patients that receive treatment there return to their normal life. Lora has defied the odds despite all the obstacles placed in her path. The odds were incredibly stacked against her. As I said before, 50% of all brain aneurysm survivors DO NOT survive the first day. Of those that survive 30% have severe deficits. She WILL BE one of the lucky ones to make a complete recovery. Shes looking forward to getting back to nursing and becoming a giver instead of a receiver. She also wants to help brain aneurysm survivors and no doubt many will receive a great deal of inspiration from her as I do every minute of each passing day. Shes been looking forward to getting out of bed and taking a stroll down the hall. (I hope you all saw the video I posted today.) The nurse informed her late yesterday she was about to get her chance. She got scared and backed out when the nurse came to get her. She needed a little push. I told her that very soon shes going to be looking in a bed at another scared survivor. I told her she needed to take these steps so she can tell her patients everythings going to be ok. Lora was dealt a heavy blow that literally knocked her flat on her back; shes back up now and it didnt take long. She has an incredible opportunity to be a great influence for others that fear the unknown. Shes already a great nurse, now shes become a great inspiration. I have even more good news to report tonight and that is her bed alarms have been turned off and Ive been privileged with some great snuggle time. Lora had a talk with a nurse and she agreed there is no harm in us sleeping together. I still have to behave, :( as the video camera is right above the bed. No naughty Toddy! :( She worked today once again with a physical therapist, a speech therapist, and had a reading test just a short while ago. Its amazing what the doctors and nurses in this hospital have accomplished. They are my heros and I cant wait to walk with them in the Anita Sharpe Walk for Awareness, on September 7. Theres not a doubt theyre going to be very impressed with there latest of many success stories. Id like to invite anyone that would like to attend, we have several commitments already. I hope to become more involved with aneurysm survivors and I believe my side of the bed has gave me a great opportunity to help others while they sit and wait for their loved ones eyes to open, their toes to wiggle, and their hands to grip. Ill never forget that moment when Loras hand closed mine. It came from nowhere and I can only describe the excitement to when my kids were born. Im excited now as I write about our day. Ive never been much of a positive influence before. I am honored on daily basis how people are inspired by our story. It has become a great love story. It warms both our hearts as I read to Lora each day the private messages and comments form everyone. Weve both been blown away by the love we have received. My favorite all time quote is, Lifes not about waiting for the storms to pass; its about learning to dance in the rain. I feel like Ive written a beautiful song, but the very best part is; I get to watch Lora dance.
