Day 25 Oviedo Rest day. Well that was the plan anyway. Reasonable nights sleep given the cramped Albergue and saw my new friends off as I made my way to the local medical clinic. Ive had problems off and on with a large blister underneath my toungue of all random places which wasnt healing and in fact growing and getting worse. Eating was getting difficult and I was feeling a bit run down so I thought it would be better to get it checked out as Ive had it for too long now. So after hiking with my backpack to the local medical clinic around 9.30am I was seen to very quickly which was impressive. I was then referred to the local hospital emergency section as it wasnt easy to diagnose and needed specialist intervention. So off for some more hiking across the city to the massive new hospital. I refuse to get taxis unless absolute emergency. I want to stay on foot the whole way (apart from a few necessary boat crossings). If there was anywhere in Spain to get referred to, this hospital was the place. I think I checked into emergency around 11am and then from there every half hour or hour saw at least a further 7 nurse/doctors each one unsure and wanting to get more tests and refer to someone more senior. So finally referred to the ultimate specialist at around 5pm. Great news is that my bloods are fine, there is no infection but Ill need some surgery but its not urgent and they couldnt perform the required surgery in the emergency section anyway so I can continue on with my hike and get the surgery later. Sounds good to me. Oh and Im eating too many bananas and need to only have a max of one per day as my potassium levels were excessive! The downside of today was that due to the possibility of surgery from the beginning I was told not to eat anything for the day. Not great but couldnt take any chances. I was just glad that there was no infection and that Ill just have to put up with the discomfort until I return to Australia. So in the end I ended up hiking 8km on the medical Camino and got to see a few cool pieces of artwork and lots of rain along the way. At least I was forced not to do anything in the emergency section for the day. Downside was no mobile network or wifi in the hospital. And as Im hiking the Canino de Santiago, Im Australian and smiled I didt have to pay for the visit to the doctor at the medical clinic of the emergency hospital visit with the blood tests and specialists. Pretty cool. Would have rather have not have gone to hospital in the first place but better to be safe. Ive since made up for my food deficit since getting out of hospital! So not an overly relaxing day with the uncertainty but all is good now. Tomorrows a new day. For for the rest of my blogs go to carlo1000kcamino.blogspot.au #carlo1000kcamino #2xu
