Day 254 (Eek!) #100happydays One of the advantages of seeing a lot of Derriford-by-night is that I then get to see a bit of home-by-day. Yesterday (pre on call) I spent a happy hour or two in a hedge getting stung and scratched whilst picking Stuff to Preserve, and today (post on call) I have poured some of it into the jelly bag. This process isnt for the impatient - the filled jelly bag needs an overnight stay suspended over a bowl, while the jewel-coloured liquid drips its way out in its own sweet time. My lovely Granma never squeezed the jelly bag to coax out a few more precious drops (it makes the jelly cloudy, Jeanette), and so, sensing the quiet Northern disapproval if I did, neither do I. My patience (takes concentration) and attention to detail (thanks to Granma) will be rewarded all the way through the winter; thick spoonfuls of preserved summer damsons in porridge, on hot toast, layered in a cake, in my mouth. Yum. I miss my Granma, and I really love Autumn; this is my harvest. :-)
