Day 28: Faith Read Mark 9:14-27 and Hebrews 11:1. I used to - TopicsExpress

Day 28: Faith Read Mark 9:14-27 and Hebrews 11:1. I used to think that having faith meant that I would say I believed something even if I truly didn’t, like the Chicago Cubs were going to win the World Series. Well, I was wrong about faith and the Cubs. Then I thought that if I just tried really hard, I could make myself believe something I didn’t truly believe to begin with. Well, I was wrong and confused. The world is full of wrong and confused messages about faith. That’s why it’s important to go to the Word of God for the answer. Faith is not pretending or trying really hard to believe something that you don’t believe. Faith is being sure and certain that something God has said is true and then being willing to live like it. (Hebrews 11:1). One of the things I love about following Jesus is that I don’t have to pretend. I can be who I am when I’m with Jesus. As a matter of fact, He prefers me that way. Notice the words of the father to Jesus in this story. Especially the words in verse 24: “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” Jesus, who had been teaching his disciples about faith and belief in Him, gives them a living example of what it means. A father comes to him with a possessed son tortured by convulsions. The father is struggling with his faith because Jesus’ disciples were unable to do anything for the boy. The father’s uncertainty is made clear in his honest words to Jesus, “If you can do anything.” He didn’t pretend with Jesus, he was honest. Jesus, in return, honored the man’s diminished faith and healed his son. I believe the father’s faith in Jesus grew from that point on. Don’t you? What are you struggling with today? Do you have enough faith to bring your struggles to God? You don’t have to pretend to know the outcome, just have faith enough to bring your troubles to God. He will take care of the rest. Remember that it is not the amount of faith, but to Whom you go with your faith, that makes all the difference. If you would like to learn more about faith, look at these additional verses: Hebrews 11, James 2:26, and James 5:13-20. They will help you enjoy the journey. What do I want to say to God today? What is God saying to me today?
