Day +29 Just a little update. Last week I had a follow up bone - TopicsExpress

Day +29 Just a little update. Last week I had a follow up bone marrow biopsy. I was given the result on Tuesday. Its still clear!(I dont think the doctor anticipated this). I am going in for a CT scan today to see if any lymphnodes are out of whack. I dont anticipate there are any at this time. I dont feel like there is cancer in my body. I believe it is in remission. That brings us to the next topic. Two days before I had my transplant I had a blood test that had some lymphoma cells or cells that looked like it. At the time, the particular Doctor stated they did not know what this meant, sometimes there are residual cells in there where the chemo is kicking it out and sometimes the chemo will distort the cells to look like lymphoma. Well on Tuesday a different Doctor stated it was definite cancer and we need to start staging for Donor Transplant(I think she also expected my bone marrow test to be cancerous). Wait a minute, first you stated you didnt know what to make of this, PLUS I have not had a blood sample since test positive, now you are saying its a definite. Doesnt make sense to me, what changed? I have not tested positive sense and my marrow is clean. Plus, we have not even let this current transplant graph completely. Sometimes I really dislike Doctors, I have had so many times were there is good news, then have a but we have to do something else to keep this cancer away. How about just some good news, let us celebrate for a day and then give me the but statement. Give me a chance to dance on some tables for a night. Anyways, we are going to take this week by week. I cant do the donor transplant until day +100, which bring us to January. The first auto(using my own marrow) transplant has to be completed. During this time we will monitor my marrow and CT scans to ensure the cancer does not return. Who is to say this current transplant is not working and the donor transplant is not necessary. The one Doctor stated it was just a matter of time before the cancer returns. She does not know me. I have beat all the odds so far. She said in a good case its a 50/50 shot that the first transplant worked. I assume my percentages are a bit lower due to having two cancers. But to me even a 30%-40% chance it works is a better percentage I have had during the past 7 months. As I have said before GIVE ME 1%. I will do the donor transplant if it seems to be the best route. I understand it is an aggressive cancer, so I may be battling thru this for a bit. I wish it was going to be a short road, but in the back of my mind I always knew this was going to be a battle for a long time. But a huge positive its been in remission since June. I will beat this cancer and I will be around for a long time. I just got to get thru all this chemo/marrow transplant shit. I would like to have a somewhat normal life again, can only read so many books and watch so much tv. If you have interest in being a bone marrow donor go to bethematch.org - they are based in Mpls, but it is a world wide company. So if you are unable to help me, you may help someone in a different part of the nation/world. Which would be pretty cool. Thanks, Mike
