Day 3 - Advent Morning Minute VERSE: Luke 1:26-35 In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.” Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.” “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. KEY THOUGHT: Have you ever thought to yourself, “God could never use me”? I’ve done too many bad things. I don’t speak well in front of others. I don’t know enough about the Bible. I didn’t go to college. I’m too young. I’m too old. I’m too poor. I’m too rich. I’m to too short. I’m too tall. I’m too skinny. I’m too fat. Reason after reason why you think God could never use you to do anything significant for Him. STOP IT! You need to take that way of thinking and put it where it belongs... in the garbage. If there is one thing we learn from the Christmas story it’s that God uses the unlikely to accomplish His purposes. Mary was an un-wed, pregnant teenager. Joseph was a poor peasant day laborer. Common people from no-wheresville going no where. And yet God chose to bring His Son into this world through this unlikely duo. And in of all places a barn! The pages of the Bible are filled with story after story of God using the common... the unlikely to bring about His plan for our world. Pick any of those stories and substitute your name. That’s how God see’s you. When you start to doubt whether you are worthy enough to be used by God, look no further than the cross. You were worthy enough for Him to die for you. PRAYER: Dear God, it’s amazing to see how you did something miraculous in Mary’s life for the entire world’s benefit. I want to make myself available to You to use. I want to be a part of Your plan to shape and change and save the world. Like Mary told the angel Gabriel, I am the Lord’s servant. When I start to doubt my worth, remind me of the price you paid for me. ---> Get these Advent devotionals sent to you via email as they are posted. Sign up here bit.ly/ccadventsignup
