Day 3. It is said that by your pupils you will be taught … and - TopicsExpress

Day 3. It is said that by your pupils you will be taught … and so it is. On three separate occasions today I heard myself innocently say: Oh, a former student of mine directed that. Oh, a former student of mine is starring in that movie. Oh, a former student created that role on Broadway. As we enjoyed some private time on the Lunt-Fontanne estate, I was buried in my journal reflecting on this experience and it hit me. On the first day here, I told the story about how I turned down the first audition for The Scottsboro Boys because the song they asked me to prepare was too high. The part that I left out was that it was a lesson I learned from Jenna Paige Gagliardo in a performance class at the University of the Arts. One day she said to me, quite innocently, Forrest, my mother said I can sing any song … as long as its in my key. On that fateful day in the fall of 2009, after I sang a song of my own, Stro said I understand theres a problem with the key? Yes, maam … its too high. She had the accompanist move it to the key of F for Forrest, and, well, here I am today looking forward to a West End transfer this fall. To every student of mine ANYWHERE -- past, present or future -- thank you for being my true master teachers and helping me to find my key. Grace.
