Day 3: There’s more to Sigma Chi than what meets the eye. Charities. Huntsman Foundation. I already talked about the social benefits of joining Greek life and about the huge alumni base that is always happy to help you. I already told you how much it’s done for me and how much it’s helped me develop on a personal level. That’s not everything. Fraternities and sororities recognize how much they get out of Greek life. That’s why we we want to share that feeling of growth with others. I am a Sigma Chi (ΣΧ) and Sigma Chi chapters from all across North America have something called Derby Days. We organize sport events for all the sorority houses to participate in and raise money for the Huntsman Cancer Foundation. Last year alone Sigma Chi Toronto raised around $9,000, Sigma Chi Waterloo raised $17,000 and Sigma Chi from all over North America raised over a half a million last year alone. I had the honor to be chosen among thousands of brothers from across all of North America to visit the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City, UT. All expenses covered by Sigma Chi. I was able to see where all our donations actually go. Mr. Huntsman himself is a Sigma Chi alumni. He lost his parents to cancer and made it his life ambition to find cure to that terrible disease. He was inspired by Sigma Chi in his college years to pursue his life goal and make it a reality. Now the Huntsman Institute is one of the top treatment centers for cancer in North America. It was one of those moments where I realized how proud I was to be a part of such a great fraternity. Proud to be a Sigma Chi.
