Day 3. This is long, but there is a point. These two cats when they showed up were looking to be near death with obvious signs of heat wave related illness, extremely malnourished, dehydrated, ear mites, flea infested, and other wounds from apparent cat fights. The animal shelter is aiding in their care for recovery. I have washed them up, first round of flea treatment given, given daily antibiotics, ear mites treated, and wounds cleaned up. No signs of other diseases so far ;) They will be going to the vet again here soon. Meanwhile, after being in a.c. with access to water and food both momma and her kitten are now alert. Their eyes are wide open again. No longer are lethargic and re-learning to trust humans again. The mom is now very affectionate which at times can be annoying when you are trying to sleep, lol. The kitten is learning to be playful and enjoy life. The hardest part was training them to learn to use a litter box. At first they were like what are you doing? What is this? Finally after three days they use it and love their litter box. Once they are back to full health we will find them new homes. Rosco has been very intrigued by all of this. We have learned who is responsible for this neglect. A neighbor across the street is hoarding animals thinking they are doing a good thing who are in denial they are causing these cases of neglect. If you cannot take care of an animal the best thing is to let them go finding a new home or a no kill shelter that will care for them.
