Day 3. Todays pose is Chair Pose (Utkatasana). I pretty much never practice this pose in my regular practice, nor do I teach it in my classes. I find it to be very challenging and many people do not have the strength and/or awareness to be able to practice it safely. That said , Chair does have many benefits, including strengthening throughout the body. Heres my Chair... I set up my feet and psyche myself up for this challenging pose. I engage my belly button in towards my spine, engage the muscles in my legs, then bend my knees and inhale my arms forward and up. I draw my shoulder blades toward each other and focus on letting my weight balance evenly through both feet, side to side & heal to toe. I try to keep my toes relaxed and my spine lengthened. Then I keep my awareness on all these alignment details so that I stay safe and strong in the posture. Whew! Now its your turn. Post any questions you may have about this pose.
