Day 3 after having a complete blood count (CBC) drawn. I did not - TopicsExpress

Day 3 after having a complete blood count (CBC) drawn. I did not tell the phlebotomist, nor the other procedure tech that I was a nurse. I just smiled quietly and answered their questions as concisely as possible, so as to get the unpleasantness over ASAP. Because nurses despise being patients, as a generality (there are exceptions). I did not tell her I had drawn blood just hours prior, and did ahelluvalot better job than her. I did not tell her that nobody has EVER had that much trouble getting my blood. Even when she stated, You have small veins, I thought, but did not say, You dipshit, their are two bigger ones trying to bite your tongue for you right there! (Pictures expressly for the benefit of experienced phlebotomists and nurses). I looked the other way, bit my own tongue, smiled at her as sweetly as I could manage, then went on to live through that THING they call a test that most menopausal women must have to suffer through (or enjoy if they are on another planet from me), and walked to my car in what I consider to be record time of something like 30 minutes later. The time overwith was the prize. But dang, look at these war bruises! Small veins? Try, you graduated from phlebotomy school like yesterday! They are still there 3 days later, so you lost my FB secrecy deadline. Have I done this to others? Most certainly. But I drew blood at 1 am this morning, had to stick twice, and I guarantee my subject will not look like this in two days. Why did you lose the FB secrecy deadline? Every nurse I work with is like, Dang! What happened to you? I stick my arm out, without any tourniquet, and say, Can you find a better vein? They laugh. They ask, Where? My reply, Bellaire Hospital. I consider that unfair, because I am positive there are better phlebotomists there. The punch line is, She told me I had small veins. I tried to hide them, but I work, physically, and cannot tolerate long sleeves. There is no hiding this. One purple top. What is next??? God help me if I am ever a patient for very long.
