Day 3 in the words of Phil Luongo, Sleep schedule is still a bit off. I woke up at 5am along with Pat Coyne. After staring at our wall and phones for a couple hours, we decided to go bike to warm our legs up for the game. Then the team headed to a nice breakfast at the hotel. The food has been amazing over here, all fresh and organic foods. We then had a team meeting going over system work for the game. Then about half the team went into the town of Kitzbuhel. While the rest of the team went on a mountain bike ride and explored the area by the hotel. The town of Kitzbuhel was amazing. The architecture for the buildings was beautiful and the mountains added a majestic touch as well. We ate at an Italian place; I ordered the spaghetti frutti di more. It was one of the best pasta dishes I have ever tasted. After grocery shopping and exploring the town, we headed back to the hotel for some down time. Pat Coyne, Steve Hughes, and I had a nice nap in the room and watched CNN (which happened to be the only English channel) catching up on the world news. Then it was game time! We played EC Kitzbuhel , who was a hard opponent. We suffered a couple early injuries, which did not help out with our shortened bench, but we are survivors and that’s what we did. With a great team effort we overcame a 4-1 deficit. After a 5-minute overtime the score was still 4-4. With a stellar performance from Mattias Soderqvist in net (he stopped all 3 attempts), Ryan Rumble converted for the only goal of the shootout. It was a major character win for our team, starting the season in the right direction. We then had a great meal (salad and pizza) at the rink, the servers were so impressed with our win they gave us free ice gelato too. We then headed back to the hotel for a much needed sleep. We play the next day at 4:30pm against a team in the Italian first league. I want to thank Lawrence University and the coaches for this amazing and remarkable experience. -Phil Luongo
