Day 3 of the 5 day art challenge for me. I am to post 3 pictures - TopicsExpress

Day 3 of the 5 day art challenge for me. I am to post 3 pictures of my work and nominate another artist each day. In my previous two posts, Ive been describing my development path with glass. Day two ended with my Bargello piece. I got a lot of comments from people that saw that piece, saying that it reminded them of native American patterns, though honestly, that wasnt even in my mind when I created it. I saw the similarity too though, and decided to actually try to do a native American inspired pattern. The first picture below shows one of several works I did where I was trying to emulate the patterns seen in native American basketry. The Bargello piece and the basket weave pieces were created using strip construction techniques, though not in the way most people do strip construction. I kept experimenting with strip construction and came up with what I refer to as my Radiant pattern, where, rather than having parallel strips, you wind up with strips all radiating out from a central point. The other two pictures in todays set are both examples of the radiant technique. The platter in the second picture is about 12 diameter and was selected as a finalist in the 2014 Bullseye Emerge competition. The bowl in the third picture was my first attempt at using the 3 step mold process for creating deep slumped vessels. Older members of the Fused Glass Fanatics group may recognize it from posts that I made showing the bowl as it progressed through the three steps. For todays artist nomination, Id like to tag my friend Kathy Engholm. Kathy and I used to work together at Tektronix, where we were both Engineers. Julie Vincent who was just nominated for the 5 day challenge by Brenda Liston-Blanchard was also a Tektronix engineer and the three of us would meet once a month for lunch and to talk about glass and show each other our latest creations. Im very happy that although weve all three retired, we continue to get together and share our love of glass. Kathy has been doing some really wonderful work with silkscreen printing and I hope shell share some of that with us.
