Day 3 of the Saga of Travels. Breakfast at Waffle House was - TopicsExpress

Day 3 of the Saga of Travels. Breakfast at Waffle House was stupendous, surrounded by soldiers from Hunter Army Air Field! New-friends-of-the day #s 3, 4, and 5. Of COURSE I got to talk to a few (there were no sign posts for me to talk to, so I resorted to real people!) and find out their whys and wherefores. Interesting people, men AND women! And I HAD to thank them for wearing the uniforms! Oh, and the waffle wasnt bad either! Beach. Nuff said. Well, not quite enough. We chose the part of the north end of Tybee Island that doesnt subscribe to the lets dredge sand from the ocean bottom and put it over the shells and trash on the beachfront edict that the south end of the island beach adheres to. $4 for 2 hours to park in the sand. One roll of toilet tissue between 3 stalls in the womens bathroom. Dont think it lasted long after I left there... But it was about this time that I started losing the feeling in my feet, so I could tell if Id used potty paper that last time or not. Then down the island to the strip, that one-block long strip of civilization that has all little food places down one side and all beach shops on the other. Plus the pier. Im totally SHOCKED that they didnt charge us to get out on that pier with its magnificent pavilion. Another $4 to park in the sand, complete with lovely Rita, the meter maid, checking for violators of the sand space. Tybee Island is well known for charging you to breathe the air there, so after about 4 hours, wed used up our allotment of blowin money and left. But NOT before joining the Elite to eat in our bare feet (at the Crab Shack). And checking out the feral cats that roam the area and the exotic birds in the room behind the gift shop. Macaws, Amazon parrots, African Grey parrots, etc. Sang My Bonnie Lies Over The Ocean to Bonnie, the red Macaw, and he danced in his cage for me! WOW! Weve seen Ft. Jackson numerous times, but had only seen Ft. Pulaski once, so that made the visitation list today. Found out that, because hes over 62, Jimmy could get a Senior Pass to ALL Federal parks, good for as long as you live, for a great price. FREE!! Thats right, our antique friends, get yourself a free Senior Pass to all Federal Parks, attractions, Army Corps of Engineers places, TVA sites, etc.!! Heres what the Feds say about this lifetime pass: Provides access to 2,000 recreation sites managed by 5 Federal agencies, nationwide. The Park Ranger said, Dont tell the President or your Congressman that this is a great deal, cause apparently they dont realize we still have this available to Seniors for FREE! Ft. Pulaski was one of the last masonry (brick) forts built before the Civil War. Taken by the Rebels two weeks after Ft. Sumter, but reacquired by the Feds in 1862. The battle to reacquire lasted 91 minutes, cause the Yankees had rifled cannons. Rebels were driving cuisinarts. Go Figure. NOW you see why the South lost, thinking with its balls (cannon type) instead of real bullets! It was about this time that I had lost feeling up to my knees... By the time we got to Leopolds (the absolute BEST ice cream this side of Heaven!) in downtown Savannah, I was crawling on nubs below my ying-yang and could hardly feel or taste the outstanding chicken salad sandwich or Jimmys peanut butter and banana sandwich with strawberry jelly sandwich. Followed by Leopolds world-renowned creation, Tutti-Fruitti ice cream. Followed by meeting new-friend-of-the-day #7. Miss Erin Young (I think), wearing a Marietta Police Explorer shirt, is now the Chief of the Post for the Marietta Post. I told her that our son, Trevor, had been the Chief for his last two years there. I remember Trevor! Hes an officer now, isnt he? Brought her up to date and Bingo! New friend! Tomorrow, well do a house tour and other stuff before we leave town. We dont want to leave Savannah early enough to miss driving into Atlanta during the projected thunderstorm tomorrow night. That would be too EASY a way to end our vacation! hehe! Again, were DEAD, but happy!
