Day 35 of our 40 day Retreat w/ Jesus Key Scriptures: Matthew 5: 33- 37 Key Verse(s): Matthew 5: 36 “You cannot even say that you swear by your own head, for God has dominion over your hands, your lips, and your head. It is He who determines if your hair be straight or curly, white or black; it is He who rules over even this small scrap of creation. Note: So many times we make a promise that we tend to keep but for whatever reason we do not keep it. What if God made a promise and did not keep it, how would you or I feel or what do you or I think about God not keeping His promise to us? But so many times we will make a promise to God but He already knows that we will not keep the promise but so many times we will still make it. You cannot make a promise to God and expect not to honor or keep it but God understands that we are human and that we go through different situations. Our children look to their parents for love, support, and protection. But the issues is you may have not made a promise verbally with your child or children but when that child was conceived you made a promise and we as parents have to honor that promise. When you make a promise to anyone you should try your best to ensure that you keep the promise that you made to them. Many times there are people who mean to do the right thing; however, different situations happens and take place to the point that they have to break their promise. You kno0w God has control over our life but, He allows us to have freedom of choice. You do not have to fix everyone’s problem because the truth of the matter is you cannot make everyone happy and you cannot fix everything. I have learned that the best way to be happy and make others happy is to be honest and do what you can with the best of your ability. Personal Thoughts: You know many times I have tried to be a better father than my dad was and even though I have made some mistakes that one thing that I have realized is that just doing one thing better is an improvement. When my children were born I did not make a verbal promise but I made a promise. Many times our children ask themselves why my parents not like my friend’s parents are. That can be a good or a bad thing depending on how you treat your children. I now understand that even when God talks to us He does not tell us anything that will hurt us.
