Day 38: A nightmare and a silver lining... Aiden: Today Aiden - TopicsExpress

Day 38: A nightmare and a silver lining... Aiden: Today Aiden had his high flow ceased again. He is currently having another trial of self ventilating and so far doing well. He still has desats with his feeds and the occasional brady/desat but seemed pretty comfortable today. He did have a bit of a vomit during kangaroo cuddles after his feed (but he always brings up some of his feeds when the amount is increased). Aiden today had a pretty good day, which is great! Abigail: Unfortunately Abigail has continued to work harder with her breathing, it was initially thought that her anemia may have been a cause and that the blood transfusion would help, it has not helped. Again they took more blood to look for infection markers, there were no signs of infection. Abigail had her CPAP increased to 8 and her oxygen requirements have remained above 40% despite the increase, she is breathing fast and still having some rib retraction and desats. The Drs have requested a meeting tomorrow to discuss our options for her care, there doesn’t seem to be many though. She also had a one off temperature today and a loose stool, she didn’t make a fuss during any of her cares and I really didn’t see her wake up at all today, she would open her eyes for a split second and then close them again, she only did this twice all day. Today has been terrible. I can’t stand to see my baby girl working so hard to breathe and I am afraid to the point I feel physically ill. Tonight that is all I can write.
