Day 4, India, Agra, Red Fort and Taj Mahal. How totally foreign - TopicsExpress

Day 4, India, Agra, Red Fort and Taj Mahal. How totally foreign to ones everyday experience! India is amazing and inscrutable. At times you have wonder at the apparent lack of simple humanity. People, bicycles, motorcycles and cars all sharing the same space with no difference whatsoever to the more vulnerable. Motorcycles and taxis, their horns a constant cacophony, rush between pedestrians at high speeds as if they had no right to be there, or as though gross vehicle weight determined right of way. Everyone in a continuous scowl. Very difficult to understand. Tonight while trying to get our room key, and patiently waiting for the clerk to complete a task, our guy insisted I just interrupt him to get my keys. Any comment or question seems to evoke snippish response. Yet, the Taj Mahal! The Red Fort! Amazing in scale, detail, design and intent. Both are so immense as to stun ones comprehension. At the same time, on the train to see these wonders, public excretion, of both kinds, visible along the tracks and against walls and fences. It is hard too hold these contrast in the mind simultaneously. One stands in perplextion and awe. We are off to dinner on the roof top of our hotel, the Taj Mahal Resort. Will try to post some pics before sleep. Tomorow, off to the next stop. More later.
