Day 4: Jacks IV started leaking, ICU reg decided to stabilise the area (photo 1) but in the end the surrounding tissue was starting to swell (photo 2) and not safe to keep using it. They used a midline initially in his arm but had difficulty threading the cannula the whole way so switched to a vygon and still had some difficulty, a delicate procedure and difficult to watch as they had to try a few times. Jack said it was very uncomfortable and he felt some pain. So for now they had to resite a peripheral line in his foot (photo 3). I am thankful Jack is the perfect patient; he stays really still throughout the procedures and has a high pain threshold (bless him!) Team meeting tomorrow to discuss next course of action.
