Day 4-Our final day in the Great Smoky Mountains led us on a winding path up and through the mountains where my husband white knuckled the steering wheel and squealed like a girl on our way to Clingmans Dome because he is afraid of heights while driving. I asked why in the world are we in the mountains? The closer we came to our destination, fog, clouds, and rain covered the narrow road. Once we arrived, we braved the elements and pushed forward on the steep 1/2 mile hike to the observation tower where we were hoping we would experience the possible gorgeous views that ranged from 22-100 miles (on clear days) that we read about on the website. Liam happily posed for a picture at the observation tower where the visibility was about 10 feet, and we were trapped in a storm with rain blowing sideways. Oh well! As I drove down the mountain with the distinct smell of hot brakes, we experienced the gorgeous views again once we descended from the heavens. We enjoyed a few hours in Pigeon Forge with only a couple of arguments of which go cart track would best suit our family. Ayden, Rhea, and Liam had the joy of driving on the junior track, where Liam turned the go carts into bumper cars. Our abs were worked out for the day from all of the laughter. Good times and great memories were made.
