ONKAR SHINES AS DUNCAN DIPS TO SECOND Three Kenyan drivers are still occupying top 10 positions after the first half of the Kenya Airways East African Safari Classic Rally cuminated at Ol Tukai lodge in Amboseli yesterday. Sadly, legendary Ian Duncan lost his lead to Stig Blomqvist of Sweden after suffering multiple punctures in the early morning run both on the \Kenyan and Tanzanian sdie. But the surprise package of Day 4 was Onkar Singh Rai who drove aggressively in the closing stage at Il-Bissel to post the fastest stage time contrary to all expectations. Onkar who is being co-driven by reigning Kenyan Champion Bladev Singh Chager attributed their surprise stage win to an aggressive but calculated drive. Chager was happy with the stage conditions at Il-Bissel saying the road is twice better than it was during the ARC Safari Rally July. “The Parane stage was awesome. The local knowledge also helped us a lot but then it all boils down to speed and consistency,” said Chager who is set to interchange with Onkar in the second half of the day. Malcolm Destro of Kenyan is lying 16th followed Jonathan Savage in 17th [place. Aziz Tejpar of Kenya who was among the top drivers in Day 3 dipped to 28th position yesterday. Miz Muzamil of Executive Rentals is lying 30th ahead of the Kenyan duo of Alastair Cavenagh and Carl Tundo who are placed 31st overall. Ramesh Vishram and Atul Kochhar are patched in 39th position followed by Kulwider Sandhu and The Rally Queens (Samira and Chantal Young) in that order. Asad Anwar and Kashif Sheikh are lying 49th in their Datsun 260Z. The Ferrari 308 Dino GT4 of Kenya based Italians Marzio Kravos and Renzo Bernardi are lying 52nd. The Ferrari is the first ever of this make to enter the Safari.
