Day 4 of Mito Awareness Week: Scientists are realizing that - TopicsExpress

Day 4 of Mito Awareness Week: Scientists are realizing that mitochondrial dysfunction might be at the core of very many common illnesses and conditions, such as alzheimers, autism, parkinsons, ALS, and countless autoimmune diseases such as MS, lupus, fibromyalgia, and rheumatoid arthritis. It can be confusing, as many of these conditions share similar symptoms, and we need further research to understand these connections better. Many have asked me if Ive tried to heal myself through diet, specifically using the Wahls protocol created by Terry Wahls MD. The significant difference between my illness, and those with the auto immune disorders that she addresses is that I have found that I cant completely cut out carbs or my body will go into a severe crash, causing a debilitating increase in muscle cramping and fatigue. I discovered this the hard way last winter, when I did the The 21-Day Sugar Detox. The reason for this is thought to be whats called a fatty acid oxidation deficiency, which basically means my body has a difficult time breaking down fats and turning them into energy. This is fairly common with mito, although it depends on the specific kind of mito.... as there are atleast 200 kinds. I am working on creating a balanced way of eating that addresses the complexity of this illness and how it affects my body... another adventure, I spose! But its a wonderful reminder that every body is different, and we cant really presume what people need. We all need to listen to our bodies! youtu.be/uCwVM8upRpU
