Day 4 of my Gratitude Challenge 1) A year ago today Ryan and I arrived in Kenya. I knew it was going to be a great trip, and it was. (Our friends that we visited there say Kenya never disappoints - I totally agree.) It was amazing, more amazing than I could have imagined. We have been on lots of great trips in our 11 years of married life. (Ireland, Guadeloupe, Mainland Europe (Germany, Prague, Vienna, Switzerland), Alaskan Cruise, Hawaii, Belize, Panama Canal Cruise, all over the continental US, etc.) Ive loved each of our trips. But theres something about Kenya that is unique, indescribable. It sticks with you, becomes a part of you. It has to be experienced to be understood. We saw everything we hoped to see. Had all the experiences we hoped to have. Met AMAZING people. Learned so much. It ended unexpectedly and with difficulty, but even that part of the trip (being in the Westgate Mall during the terrorist attack) I dont wish away. I do wish the attack had never occurred, but not that we hadnt been there when it did. It changed me, taught me, increased my understanding and compassion. Im so grateful for each day we got to spend there. I missed Abby every second, but other than that it was perfect! We celebrated Penny day by giving her a treat bone - she enjoyed it :) ! 2) September 10th is Penny day - the anniversary of the day we adopted our dog. We have had her 3 years now. We had wanted a dog ever since we got married but we kept waiting until I could be home more so the dog wouldnt have to be home alone too much. We finally had that chance 3 years ago. She has been an awesome dog - she has never gone to the bathroom in our house, never destroyed anything, she is a great guard dog for Abby, shes the perfect size, and just a beautiful dog. She has brought us a lot of joy. Im so grateful we were able to find our ideal dog! 3) Ryan and I got to go to the temple today. We go each month. Im so grateful to have a temple only an hour away, grateful to have grandparents who love keeping Abby for us when we go, and just grateful for temples and for the opportunity Ive had to make covenants in them!
