Day 4 of the art challenge, some notable examples of turning-point - TopicsExpress

Day 4 of the art challenge, some notable examples of turning-point work I did in college! In my freshman and sophomore years, I still found myself struggling to properly do observational work even though I could draw out of my head. My first figure drawings were terrible and I struggled with the traditional charcoal we used. But eventually I had a figure drawing class where a professor allowed me to draw a model digitally with my tablet - and suddenly everything shifted! Not feeling so tied down by the medium, I could finally explore all the subtle forms and value that life drawing provides. When I signed up for Jerrys digital classes in my junior/senior years, I was prepared to really challenge myself with more realistic assignments (the skull image is from one of his classes). I also really enjoyed figure drawing and began to feel at ease expressing the body in many mediums (I included all of my favorite figure pieces). Now that Ive learned how to observe, my work has improved immensely, and it is something I will always continue to practice. The last image was made in my sophomore year, in Printmaking, a class I really enjoyed because of all the different processes I learned. The image here is a silkscreen print, something Id eventually like to set up in my own studio.
