Day 41 It’s our final night before we head home. We finally jumped on a cable car today. The other day Willie gave us a tip, don’t try to board it at the turnaround, because you will be waiting in-line for 2 hours. Instead walk a few blocks to the next stop and you will get on straight away. We walked up to crooked hill, let me rephrase that we climbed up crooked hill that street was so steep cars were doing burnouts trying to drive up it. Crooked Hill is a well-known landmark famous for its zig zag street, which was put in to stop cars from speeding down the steep hill. There is no way cars can speed down it now, not because of the zig zag, but because cars are lined for miles waiting to drive down it. You will be waiting for 90 minutes minimum if you want to drive down. The cable car ride was fun. It is a super slow creaky cruise through the city. It goes so slow that you are allowed to hang off the sides. It cost 5 bucks each which is expensive when you compare it to the buses, which cost only $2 each, and Kiyana is free. Still you got to do it once. San Fran is such a beautiful city. The people are friendly, only 800,000 people live here and the homeless problem people warned me about is not as bad as Washington DC. We are staying in the Cow Hollow/Marina district and it is such nice area. It’s never busy, it’s really quite and cool little cafes, restaurants and bars, surround us. In fact apart from the touristy areas, this whole city seems quiet and calm. Maybe its because there are more dogs than children here. One of tourist guides jokingly said it’s because of all the gay people who live here. The average salary for a professional dog walker here is 70K. I might need to switch careers. Of course this is the Gay capitol of the world and you would have to be blind and deaf not to notice that. It’s nice to see people not afraid to be who they are. I saw 2 men kiss in Times Square on my first trip to NYC, that was the first and only time I’ve seen that done in public view and it not being a gay pride event. In San Fran you will see that all the time, gay and lesbian couples are all over the place and are just as common as hetro couples, weed smoking hippies and a few drunken bums.
