Day 5: Time for a shout-out to that unimaginably long chain of couplings that allowed me to be here, tapping this on my keyboard. Every procreative Australopithecus africanus assignation in the chain, every Homo habilis pregnancy resulting from love, obligation, or force, all the ancestral grandmothers who bore a dozen or more babies such that my own genetic path would manifest -- all yall, from the lemurs to Edie Jaquith, thank you, from the depths of my deoxyribonucleic acid. Im grateful to be a link in the genetic path to the future, barring climatic or nuclear holocaust. If we give nature a chance, I wonder what Homo sapiens sapiens will evolve into. (There must be a great song to go with this post. Cant think of one.)
