Day 5 Today began early with the children and I having our hair - TopicsExpress

Day 5 Today began early with the children and I having our hair cut at Andrew Clifford Hairdressers in Mold. Very few people have cut Deans hair since it fell out....twice....and Andy always does a great job. Im very precious about Deans hair. He had very curly long hair at 3 1/2 years of age and it was a huge deal for me to take him for his first proper hair cut as I loved how it was but it was getting to the point he wouldnt thank me for it in the future! So off we went to the hairdressers, 3 times in fact, as he wouldnt sit still for it to be cut so it had to be done in stages. The sucker punch was the fact that 6 weeks later he had no hair, due to the Chemotherapy!!!!! I suppose I felt like I decided to cut it right before diagnosis and didnt need to make that choice to go against what I liked at the time. As for being precious, I just dont like it short. I couldnt care less what my hair looks like...but Deans, well thats has become another matter and yes I have cried a few too many times when its been a bit too short. After all its just hair....and it always grows back. After the hairdressers off Eve and Dean went to play scheme and this afternoon, I took them swimming. Which they loved and was very cooling. Loving the weather right now!!! This afternoon brought another hospital appointment for Dean. As you can see from the photos attached we attended the Physiotherapy department at Wrexham Hospital for an assessment appointment. The test was very thorough and interesting and threw up some difficulties, but nothing new really. Its hard to sit and watch your child struggle with simple tasks as much as it to discuss the chances that this wont change. But outside this Dean has developed fabulous coping strategies to accommodate what he needs to achieve and maybe this is how it will remain. Deans struggles are thought to be neurological and thats a very cloudy area. Obviously Neuroblastoma is a neurological disease, but the difficulties Dean is currently experiencing arise from medication he received during treatment, causing extensive nerve damage which he may never recover from. The day ended with a football session for Dean, which he loves and has been counting the sleeps down since last Friday. What a jam packed first week off school Dean has had. Happy boy!!
