Day 5 of Gratitude: 1. Second chances. Life doesnt always give them to you, but every now and then Ive been fortunate enough to be able to take a second shot at something (or someone), and it usually works out well. In a past where regrets are piled high, I am very grateful that life/karma/whatever has occasionally given me a second chance or do-over. 2. I am grateful to Max Rubin, who came to America in 1907, escaping persecution in Russia to establish himself here and provide a more hopeful future for his family. My great-grandfather arrived and initially lived in New York, but after the Great Chelsea (MA) Fire of 1908, Max, a carpenter by trade, moved to Boston figuring there would be demand for his skills. Because of that decision, I grew up a Red Sox fan instead of a Yankees fan. 3. Lame and awful as it sounds, Im grateful for Facebook. Thanks to this ad-filled time suck, I have reconnected with people from my past, made many new friends from all over the world, found connection and community in a way not otherwise possible, and now know all my friends birthdays. Of course, there are many more things I am grateful for, and with the High Holidays approaching, I will be taking time to reflect on and acknowledge as many as I can. But its been fun sharing these 15 with all o youse.
