Day 5 of my 5 day positivity challenge by Kim Borchers. It has been a great challenge and Ive enjoyed doing it! I challenge Marearl Denning, Patricia Annie Oakley Stoneking, and Deborah Palladino to do the same. I am grateful for: - My tenacity. When I joined the firm Accenture, new hires spent a week at its training academy in rural Illinois. My most memorable moment there was when the instructor scanned the classroom and said, And dont try to impress anyone with how intelligent you are, because everyone at the firm is as smart as you. You can only set yourself apart by working harder, doing better, making things happen. I was successful there because of my tenacity in achieving my goals and delivering successful projects. It was that same tenacity which would propel me through the past 10 years of retirement to complete two significant projects on behalf of others - an achievement far more fulfilling than any I achieved in my career: 1) the five years it took me to lead a group of 50 women to convince the Clark County School District (Las Vegas) to name a school after our teacher and mentor. Evelyn Stuckey Elementary opened in early 2011; and 2) my six year project to convince the KS Legislature to enact autism insurance reform - the Governor signed the bill into law this past April, requiring insurance companies operating in the State of KS to provide coverage for approved autism therapies. - Life Experiences. There are so many opportunities Ive stumbled upon by being at the right place at the right time that Ive joked Im just like Forrest Gump! Ive had huge opportunities in my life, and Im enormously grateful for each and every one. And Ive had some dark clouds along lifes road, but I would not change my life for anything! - My mother. My mom was really someone special. She passed away way too soon -- three days after my 28th birthday, but anything that is good about me is because of my mother. She was good to the bone and her ethics were above reproach. She was soft and feminine, and taught by loving example. Mom was one of those people who never had a negative thing to say about anyone, who treated everyone she met with respect, and was someone whom others would seek out for help and advice. She was calm and gentle; and by now youve realized that - alas - I am much more like my father. Shes been gone for 40 years, but there are times I can feel her loving presence in my life, and it warms my heart. I was so damn lucky to have been raised by that angel of a woman. ❤️
