Day 5 of my 5-day song challenge by Jeremy Hay, is Tangerine Dream’s Beach Scene. Back in 1985, a school friend introduced me to two memorable things – his new Roland JX-8P synthesizer (which to this day produces the best analog string pads of all synths), and some really atmospheric electronic music by a German band called Tangerine Dream. Years later one of the TD riffs (especially the synth hook and lead guitar that sounded like a synth square wave) was still firmly planted in my head but I had no idea what the track was called. Eventually I tracked it down and here it is. There are two variations of the track on TD’s soundtrack to the movie “Thief” – Beach Scene and the shorter Beach Theme.
