Day 5 of the Bill Higgins Musical Nomination Life moves on and - TopicsExpress

Day 5 of the Bill Higgins Musical Nomination Life moves on and Norman Tebbit like, I got on my bike, cycled round Aberdeen and knocked on doors until I got a job. It took a wee while when you have 3 O levels. The RAF were very interested in accepting me given that one of those was an O level in Russian but I chickened out and instead took a job as a Kitchen Porter in the Douglas Hotel in Aberdeen. I remember my first weeks wages (including overtime) being £80. That was a lot of money in 1976 and I made straight for the Record Store. There had been many musical influences for me - from Jazz to Classical to Heavy Metal, Traditional, Prog Rock etc, etc, etc. But along the way I had discovered Gilmour and Waters et al and read up in great detail about Syd Barrett. My first wage packet went on buying as many Floyd albums as I could. Gilmour has been an enormous musical influence on me and the music of Pink Floyd, amongst many other influences, has led me to my Postgraduate Music Masters at Aberdeen University and my involvement with SERG. (serg-aberdeen.net). (Anyway thanks Bill - I remember us writing stuff together for The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe all those years ago. I still remember us sitting in that SEN house with our guitars and you venturing the song - When Aslan Comes. Beautiful, clever, simple - somewhere I have an audio tape of it. I also remember bumping into you and the band in Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris after a Boogalusa tour. Maybe in the future we can work together again. Huge thanks for the nomination. Look after yourself!) I now nominate Graham Boyack, Heath Savage, and Mike Andrews. https://youtube/watch?v=w7N0mY6FaRg
