Day 5 of the gratitude challenge: (and for those of you who just noticed that my days of gratitude arent EXACTLY consecutive can please be patient! A lot on my plate...) I am thankful for my education. I am so very blessed to have been given a tremendous Catholic education by my parents. My years at Marist in Atlanta were amazing. I was challenged and I went out into the world knowing how to study, how to analyze, how to problem solve and how to pull an all-nighter. The lessons I learned from an amazing staff I carry with me into all aspects of my life. The endless essays for AP English, the religion, philosophy, model Arab, outdoor education (ha, hard to believe and I got a concussion while canoeing some crazy river!) not to mention the core courses...It was a well rounded education that helped me to see other peoples perspectives and to learn to challenge myself. The next stage was Auburn University where I explored my love for early childhood education. I was taught by a phenomenal staff of teachers and was given ample opportunity to try the methods they taught us in real classrooms. I spent my last semester in New Zealand studying their approach to literacy. (And having a blast with Anna Henson Hall and Kristy Lafferty White!!!). Added to all of this was many, many, MANY years spent studying music. I had fabulous music teachers who were an inspiration and from whom I learned so much. All of this prepared me for the career I chose in education where I had the tremendous honor of teaching some beautiful young children. I loved each and every one of them from my first class way back in 1998 (JB Young Connelly Rhea Kyle Nikki Mastin )all the way to the cutie Patooties I taught just last year. (Jenna Coda Crystal Jansky Todish Melissa Kingery Socha Michelle Lara Shimer Patricia Lara Corson) What a gift your parents all have given me by sharing each and every one of you with me! Our education is a gift we are given by our parents and our teachers and for this I am thankful!!
