Day 510 Leonitis - Couch potato... The weather cooperated - TopicsExpress

Day 510 Leonitis - Couch potato... The weather cooperated again today and although we had a little rain the temps were up near 60 degrees. Ill take it. Not going to be many of these days left. The dogs all got out and played as usual and seemed to be all wound up. I assume it is because of the changing barometric pressure. We also noticed that Stretch took a couple steps backwards today and wouldnt put his feet in the gravel and was panicked and didnt want to be outside. Again, we are assuming this is from barometric pressure changes. Dogs are susceptible to changes in the barometric pressure as are humans. Humans often experience mood swings, aches and pains, head aches and a sense of tiredness associated with pressure changes. Dogs are thought to be even more susceptible as they are more sensitive to changes in the air. Dogs can become agitated, needy, anxious, stiff in their joints, hyper, anorexic (wont eat) and restless. They can also do the opposite and become lethargic and not want to go outside and often have accidents that they normally dont have. Dogs can have more behavioral problems or changes in their behavior during times of low pressure... When relating this to a dog like Stretch or Leo..they can take steps backwards in their progress..sometimes minor steps back, other times larger steps back. In Stretchs case today I have a feeling this is just a minor step backwards and does have a lot to do with the weather and the pressure system weve had blowing through since last night which has caused our temps to rise and the rain to come in etc. There...meteorology and dogs 101....ha. The other picture tonight is of Rooney. I thought Id do a little profile of a dog in our program every night and Ive started with Rooney. Weve had Rooney now for over a month. Hes a 17 or 18 week old puppy....we think he is a Wire Haired Dachshund mix or perhaps a Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen (PBGV) mix. Rooney started his young life out a bit rough. He was turned into a shelter with Parvo when his owner could not afford the medical care he needed to save his life. Even though he was just about 12 weeks old at the time he was a fighter and he survived! He then came down with a case of giardia and fought through that too! Rooney is now a happy, healthy, crazy, wiggly normal puppy full of love and life. He loves playing with the other dogs and is all over the place like a social butterfly out there making sure he plays with each and every one of the dogs. Rooney has no health restrictions, is doing well on his kennel training and is ready to find his new home! More tomorrow!
