Day 579 Pilling to Fleetwood. I was awake at 05:30 wrote my blog then packed. I set off this morning at about 07:30. It didnt take too long to reach Knott End where I stopped at a shop to buy pasta and fruit for breakfast. I then had to head inland following a path called the Wyre Way which followed the River Wyre to Shard Bridge and the back up the other side to Fleetwood. Just before I reached the town a vehicle stopped and a chap called Kenny ex 1 Para stopped for a chat and to offer any help. I had been in a lot of pain all day and it had made my day drag like hell by the time I reached Fleetwood at 14:00 Id really had enough despite taking more painkillers in one day than I ever had. Blackpool North Pier was only another 9 miles and I had plenty of daylight to do it but I simply hurt to much. So decided to call it a day here. I had been in touch earlier with a good friend who I last saw just before I set off. We arranged for him to pick me up in an hour or so. I made my way round to Fleetwood Magistrates Court because the last time I had to come to Fleetwood was to appear at the Court here for non payment of business rates (a very low point in my life) I sat in the doorway on my berghan looking out to sea and reflected on what I have managed to do despite all the odds and bad weather in 597 days, and I remembered how I felt sat in the waiting room through the glass doors behind me. Back then it was such a low point in my life I had suicidal thoughts. The difference now is I look forward to waking up in the morning! Jon turned up with his girlfriend Kim and his lad Riley at 15:40 we gave each other a big hug and I jumped in his car. It was weird sat next to Riley on the back seat because the last time I saw him when I started this walk he was a new born baby. Riley is now a lively chatty boy. Jon lives in Blackpool and said hell take us for a pint at the Wacky Warehouse in South Shore. I said thatd be okay but I didnt want to go the prom way because I didnt want to see the prom or South Pier (my finish line) until I had got there by foot. Kim drove us the back way to the pub and I sat chatting to Jon and Kim while Riley played in the play area. We stayed there for a bit then went back to his where he treated us to a takeaway. I said good night to them and got a taxi to my other good friend Ricky, who now lives up North Shore. Ricky is who I will be staying with all week. I first met him when he moved into the small flat at the back of my B&B. He is one of the few People that has never let me down and it was great to see the old sod again. We sat up chatting for a while before saying goodnight. I settled in to sleep on his settee in the front room which will be my home for the next 6 nights. Thanks for reading xxx
