Day 6: In all things we are told to give thanks. In the midst of tragedy, finding something to give thanks for seems utterly impossible, and today seems to be one of those days. Whether or not we understand what is happening around us, in our lives or others lives, we are told in Romans 8:28 that all things work together for the good of those who love the Lord, who have been called according to His purpose. Could you ever eat a cup of flour, a cup of sugar, a cup of oil or a stick of butter by itself? Of course not...those ingredients by themselves taste awful! However, when these things are worked together, they make an incredible delicious cake in the end. Situations around us can be devastating, but such things do not take God by surprise. So, today I am thankful to know that although in our feeble minds we do not understand why tragic things happen, we are promised that ALL things work together for good. We are also promised that He will never leave nor forsake us in our deepest trials. He is always by our side although we may not feel Him near. He is our ever present help in the time of trouble. Psalms 30:5 promises that weeping may tarry for the night but joy comes with the morning. I do not know what tomorrow holds, but I am SO thankful I know who holds tomorrow. I am thankful that every detail in our lives is worked into something good, just like the flour, oil, sugar and butter are worked into a tasty cake! And even though sorrow comes to us, God is Faithful to heal and provide a peace that passes all understanding, and He promises joy WILL come again. For these promises from God and His eternal love for us, and so very much more, I am thankful. Yet, I can still be heartbroken by the tragedy around us today!
