Day #6 and its time to admit what turned the worm. At 19 I left my home town for Portsmouth in late 1986 as the new Head Waiter (thanks to Nick Lawrance) of the Holiday Inn in Cosham. During 1988 i ventured into the old Bluebird record shop & purchased the House Hallucinates (Pump Up Europe) LP on cassette. My move to Portsmouth saw most of my music bought on cassette as my life & music consumption like so many others at that time had been changed completely by the Walkman. I had heard and loved all the early house releases that bent the charts and owed the first House Sound Of Chicago LPs on tape too, but after hearing this album on cassette on my way home with Sleezy D as the opener followed by Phutures Acid Trax, its fair to say my life was changed forever. Next the search was on to find where i could hear this music in a club, which in turn led to an extravagant moustachioed DJ called Rory downstairs @ Ellie Jays on Southsea seafront where i would hear another life long fave in Get Real by Paul Rutherford as well as everything else coming out of the US & Europes new beat scene. Lee Bartram was my clubbing/boozing partner in crime back then but little did he know that after i left Portsmouth in the summer of 89 i would take my love of this crazy Acid House music a fair bit further than either of us could have dreamed. https://youtube/watch?v=0R_4XTqo8GY
