Day 6 of my seven days of gratitude 1. I am grateful for my stepchildren - KG, KB and Nonos - you are my children and an important part of my family. I came into your lives five years ago and you have been nothing but pleasant. When I fell in love with your dad and he told me what comes with the package I immediately prepared myself for hard work. But I was wrong because with you there is no work. You appreciate the little things I do for you - you even say thank you after any lousy meal I prepare. You are so much like my boy-T and that makes it easy for me to relate. May God bless your mother - perhaps I dont have the hard work because she has already done it or still busy with it. Thank you for your love and understanding and for treating T-man like a brother you have had for many years. 2. I am grateful for all the students who have benefited or are benefiting from my Adopt-a-Learner Foundation. Through you I have learned how cruel poverty can be and what it does to young black men who, despite their many struggles, are often regarded as more advantaged that young black women. Thank you for allowing yourself to be weak in my presence despite what African culture dictates and giving me (a small black woman) an opportunity to hold your hand and help fight your battles. Thank you for allowing me to be your other mom and accepting my rebuke whenever necessary. Thank you for not giving up on yourself and on your dreams when things are tough. Thank you for believing all the stories of hope I tell you because they are true. Mulalo Sambula, Delice Lumamba, Docmedia Mlambo, Sylvester Molokoane, Donacien Niyonzima, Maanda Ndou, Mpho Mvula and SD Dithalane - I love you guys. South Africa has not yet seen what you can do but it is just a matter of time. One day it shall be revealed. I know you will overcome and succeed and I want to be there to tell the world where you have been and what it took. Sibusiso is one of those who has benefited like you and now he is a graduate and celebrated all over the country for his talent. I know for sure that you too will be fine and I thank God for giving me an opportunity to play a small little role in your journey to greatness. 3. I am grateful for the smart young people I met this year. Thanks to Dr Mokhwetha Mabula for introducing me University of Pretorias Crypto Giants - through one of them (Mukovhe Reinhard Lumadi) I also got introduced to the Venda Powers, wink wink Pandelani Nekhumbe II You guys made an incredible impression on me and I cannot wait to see what you become. Thanks to Kgaugelo Cory for introducing me to the MEDUNSA groupies who were upgraded to friends during the #WiseUp session in May - wink wink Edwardo Sepirwa Kgabo. You are going to make damn good looking and very caring doctors one day and South Africa will be well served. I cant wait. I dont know who to thank for all the smart, wild and crazy Witsies I met this year during their award ceremonies at Esselen, PKV & Noswall Hall. I loved your energy and the time I spent with you and now I have become a groupie and a trendversity follower - wink wink Jimmy Eish! I hope Yolanda is not on FB because she wont be impressed with me not mentioning Jubs and others. Truth is that I also loved meeting all the prim and proper students from Jubilee hall, Mens Res and JCE res -what is it called again - eish sorry but I have too much of Esselen in me
