Day 60 of 61 By Brian Murphy Oh no, its tomorrow again, I think as I open my eyes, The hunger inside me brings pain, Down my body where it lies, A point to prove for Ireland, No food shall pass my lips, Although the bones of my hands, Are narrow, weakened to the tips, 60 days Ive refused to eat, 60 days Ive stood my ground, On 61 Ill my death meet, Ill no longer be around, My name is Joe McDonell, And from Belfast I did come, Im here now in your prison hell, But my time is nearly done, I leave behind my kids and wife, But I do it here with pride, As I lay down my republican life, My eyes are open wide, I see what our men must do now, What must happen to succeed, As a cold bead of sweat runs down my brow, I pray they find a man to lead, For in a hundred years or so, When the history books are read, Ill hope Irelands defeated its British foe, And you have honoured your patriot dead. Ill leave you with a parting gift, Words to get you through the night, A simple statement to give you a lift, Dont ever give up the fight
